Mummy prints are considered to be prints with traces of artificial aging and decaying that are seen in the patination and fraying of pages and bindings. The Düsseldorf caricaturist, genre painter, illustrator, and writer Carl Maria Seyppel (1847–1913) was known for his mummy prints. His picture stories – partially with ancient Egyptian caricatured motifs as in his Egyptian humoresques of 1882 and partially with sociocritical tendencies – are frequently called the forerunners of the comics.
