The success story of Ward Bennett is a remarkable one. He left school at the age of thirteen to work in New York as a fashion styler. As the boy turned out to be really talented at drawing, Ward Bennett was sent to Paris to sketch the latest fashion created for haute couture collections. Ward Bennett spent some time in Paris, and trevelled throughout Western Europe. Ward Bennett also enrolled at the Porto Romano art school in Florence before attending the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris in 1938 and working with the sculptor Constantin Brancusi.
After his return to the US, Ward Bennett lived in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Ward Bennet was incredibly versatile, working as a shop window decorator, milliner, and interior designer while gradually gaining reputation as a designer. Ward Bennett opened a studio in New York and worked as a design consultant for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and the American paper manufacturing company Crown Zellerbach. For the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, Ward Bennett designed the entire interior. Bennett also designed the interiors of numerous private houses belonging to, among others, the Rockefellers and the Agnelli family in Rome. From the 1960s Ward Bennett also designed a great deal of furniture for Brickel Associates. He also designed glass, tableware, cutlery, and jewelry for Tiffany & Co. In 1987 Ward Bennett began to collaborate with Geiger International and designed office furniture for them.
Ward Bennett's designs are elegant, combining traditional elements with modern form and he is regarded as a master of Minimalism and a high-tech specialist.
