Martin Mayer
1931 Berlin
Martin Mayer was born in Berlin on January 16, 1931. At the age of only fifteen, Mayer became the private student of Theodor Georgii in Munich. Martin Mayer studied under Georgii from 1949 to 1954 and during this time he developed his own style based on the human figure. In the following years, Martin Mayer produced numerous busts, many prints and around 30 bronze statues for public spaces.
Among his most important pieces are the "Jacobs pilgrim" in Speyer, "Franciscus as peace herald" in Munich and "Olympia Thriumphans", a female nude in the Munich Olympic Park.
Female portraits remain the focus of Martin Mayer's work today.
