1949 Buenos Aires
Born in Buenos Aires in 1949, Jorge Pensi also studied architecture there. In 1975 Jorge Pensi moved to Barcelona, becoming a Spanish citizen in 1977. That same year, Jorge Pensi joined other designers to found Grupo Berenguer, a design agency. In the 1980s Jorge Pensi wrote for "On Diseño" magazine.
In 1984 Jorge Pensi fouonded a practice of his own, specializing in furniture and lighting design. Jorge Pensi's elegant, meticulously crafted furniture of cast aluminium has been particularly acclaimed. Among Jorge Pensi's best known designs is the 1988 "Toledo" chair, which represents his personal interpretation of the ubiquitous Spanish street café chair. In 1989 Jorge Pensi designed "Orfilia" for Thonet, a graceful chair with a cast aluminium frame and seat and back of lacquered laminated wood.
For the Spanish firm B.Lux, Jorge Pensi designed the "Regina" and "Bluebird" lamps. Jorge Pensi has designed for many of the celebrated firms, including Arruti, B.Lux, Cassina, Disform, Driade, IBM, Knoll International, Kusch+Co, SIDI, and Thonet.
Today Jorge Pensi is one of the leading Spanish designers. His creations might be termed expressive Minimalist in style, featuring design that holds an even balance between form and function.
