1952 Columbus
Ford Beckmann was born in Colubmus, Ohio in 1952. Beckmann became particularly famous for his "Black Wall Paintings". In his "Pop Paintings" Beckmann overpainted silk-screen prints of clowns or produced collages from them.
Ford Beckmann's works show images of the dependence of man, stuck between life, disappearance and hope. From 1991 Beckmann began a series of new works, in which he employed the colors yellow, black and white, which he had used in many of his abstract pieces, but he no longer forced them into geometrical shapes. Similar to Pollock's "Dripping" pictures, Ford Beckmann let paint drip on the canvas, so that the resulting shapes would spread on the painting energetically.
Ford Beckmann lives in New York and New Canaan, Connecticut.
